Role Purpose:
The primary objective of the GuideWire Architect role is to:
- Design end-to-end solutions for IT changes with a focus on the GuideWire Insurance suite.
- Architect and implement solutions for broker connectivity, integrating the GuideWire PolicyCenter with BMS vendors.
- Develop GuideWire-centric designs that meet functional, non-functional, service, and security requirements.
- Deliver solutions that align with the overall architecture strategy and IT objectives.
- Ensure compliance with standards, design approaches, and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Solutions & Assurance:
- Design solutions for GuideWire Insurance platform-based projects (PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, and Contact Manager) that meet Aviva’s standards for technology, ensuring availability, security, resilience, and performance.
- Produce GuideWire design and migration options, including cost, benefit, and risk assessments for investment decisions.
- Create migration solutions for transitioning policies from legacy systems to GuideWire PolicyCenter.
- Collaborate with product owners, enterprise architects, platform teams, and project stakeholders to balance short-term goals with long-term objectives.
- Ensure the integrity of end-to-end GuideWire solutions across platforms, including transition states.
- Estimate IT initiatives and feature team sprints, ensuring alignment with business outcomes.
- Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify and address solution debt during transition phases, and outline plans for resolving it in future phases.
- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with proposed solutions and develop mitigation strategies.
- Participate in post-implementation reviews and provide insights for improving future solution designs.
2. Technical Leadership:
- Stay up to date with developments in the GuideWire platform and integration technologies, and assess their fit within the company’s architecture.
- Evaluate the capabilities of the GuideWire Cloud Platform and recommend adoption based on business needs.
- Define and enforce architectural best practices and standards in the GuideWire space.
- Conduct architecture reviews to ensure adherence to guidelines.
- Produce design artifacts for service, security, architecture, and engineering stakeholders.
- Peer review design artifacts created by others.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to junior team members as needed.
3. Design Community Participation:
- Actively contribute to the Solution Architecture community, leading or participating in initiatives to improve design practices.
- Continuously develop technical skills to support Aviva’s exploration of emerging technology trends.
- Resource Complexity:
- Work within company policies and guidelines, applying technical knowledge and expertise while managing priorities effectively.
- Problem-Solving:
- Solve a wide range of project-based problems, from daily repetitive issues to complex technical challenges requiring expert knowledge.
- Escalate problems according to defined guidelines and procedures.
4. Change Management:
- Recommend design solutions and ideas to address challenges encountered by the project or feature teams, ensuring alignment with policies, processes, and guidelines.
- Take initiative to adapt to changes as they arise.

- Platform Managers and Specialists
- Platform Architects and Designers
5. External Interaction:
- Maintain liaison with suppliers and technology sources to keep specialist knowledge up to date.

6. Key Skills & Capabilities:
- Proven experience in the GuideWire Insurance Suite, including PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, Contact Manager, and GuideWire Edge.
- Expertise in Broker Connectivity—integrating PolicyCenter with BMS systems.
- Experience with GuideWire Cloud Platform capabilities and migration approaches.
- Strong experience in APD and Integration Frameworks for solving business problems.
- Knowledge in designing and implementing integration solutions involving GuideWire and ecosystem applications, such as document management, finance, and payments.
- Proficiency in integration architecture design and implementation.
- Deep understanding of digital technologies, cloud computing, and modern development practices.
- Certified in AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of end-to-end project lifecycle methodologies, with a focus on agile.
- Strong communication skills for providing technical guidance to peers and project stakeholders.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic goals with short-term business needs.
- Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
