Software Engineer in Test (SDET)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

Job Summary

We are looking for a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) with 3–6 years of experience in software quality engineering and test automation. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Playwright, JavaScript, and API testing, along with the ability to design robust test cases, build scalable automation frameworks, and collaborate closely with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test cases based on product specifications, acceptance criteria, and technical designs.
  • Translate product requirements into effective test coverage, including edge cases, negative scenarios, business rules, and state transitions.
  • Build, enhance, and maintain scalable, reusable automation frameworks using Playwright.
  • Develop and execute automated tests for:
  • API Testing
  • Integration Testing
  • End-to-End Testing
  • Functional Testing
  • Regression Testing
  • Investigate, reproduce, and analyze software defects across UI, API, and backend layers.
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide actionable findings to development teams.
  • Maintain traceability by linking test cases, execution results, defects, and requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, grooming sessions, and release planning.
  • Maintain accurate test documentation, execution reports, and test artifacts using TestRail.
  • Collaborate closely with Developers, Product Managers, QA Engineers, and DevOps teams to ensure quality is embedded throughout the development process.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of experience in Software Testing, QA Automation, or SDET roles.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining automation frameworks using Playwright.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript (preferred) for test automation.
  • Hands-on experience with API testing using Postman, REST Assured, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of:

  • Experience debugging applications by analyzing logs, API responses, and backend behavior.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
