Position Overview

The Artificial Intelligence, Data and Emerging Technologies Division uses a one-government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making, and service delivery across the Government of Alberta, balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data access, collaboration, reduced data duplication, and innovation to provide effective and efficient services to Albertans.

The Data Centre of Excellence requires a Business Intelligence Analyst to support the design and development of analytical data products and services and the implementation of the Government of Alberta Data Strategy. Working within a team, the successful candidate will help deliver high-quality data analysis, data modelling, visualizations, and evidence for use across departments and with external stakeholders.

The role may include data analysis, data modelling, statistical analysis, data governance, data science, data quality, advising, business analysis, and data-product design and delivery.

  • Develop and share data models and analytical products.
  • Develop baseline and ongoing outcomes, key results, metrics, and other indicators.
  • Apply analytical skills to provide insights, support decision-making, and facilitate strategic business planning.
  • Integrate quantitative and qualitative data to create business insights.
  • Design and create dashboards and custom reports using various data sources and inputs.
  • Escalate issues and risks appropriately and work effectively in a multi-vendor and staff environment.
  • Adapt services and project deliverables as user needs, business needs, and technical opportunities evolve.

Work Arrangement and Hours

  • Work must be performed from within Canada because of network and data-security requirements.
  • The role is expected to be primarily remote, with the possibility of up to 15% onsite meetings.
  • Standard hours are 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding Government of Alberta holidays.
  • Expenses related to onsite attendance, relocation, commuting, accommodation, meals, or beverages will not be reimbursed.

Equipment Requirements

  • The contractor must supply all equipment and workspace requirements for remote work, including a computer, software, printer, supplies, and suitable office furniture.
  • The computer must run a modern version of Windows or macOS compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop and related remote-access software. Windows is strongly preferred for system compatibility.
  • The Province will provide the credentials and access required for Government of Alberta systems.

Screening and Training

  • A standard criminal-record check may be requested before services commence.
  • The successful candidate must complete mandatory training, including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy and security-awareness training.
