Data Engineer - Senior

Role Details

• Employment Type: Contract
• Location: Edmonton, Alberta
• Hours: 36.25 hours per week
• Standard Working Hours: 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta time, Monday to Friday
• Work Mode: Primarily remote, with availability for onsite meetings in Edmonton as required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise data integration solutions using Talend.
• Build ETL/ELT processes, data transformations, mappings, orchestration workflows, and reusable components.
• Develop parameterized and context-aware integration jobs for development, testing, and production environments.
• Schedule, monitor, troubleshoot, and support data integration jobs in production.
• Administer and support Talend Management Console (TMC) or Talend Administration Center (TAC).
• Support Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and runtime infrastructure, including troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Provide production support, including incident triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution of data-load and integration failures.
• Translate business and data requirements into technical designs, transformation logic, and data reconciliation processes.
• Develop and optimize SQL solutions using relational databases.
• Design secure data services and APIs using Azure API Management.
• Apply data governance, metadata, lineage, privacy, and security practices.
• Collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, business stakeholders, and vendor support teams.
• Use AI and automation tools to improve data engineering development, testing, monitoring, documentation, and code quality.
• Follow established SDLC, source control, CI/CD, testing, release, and change-management practices.

Must-Haves

• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience developing, testing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions using Talend Studio.
• 3+ years of experience supporting Talend Management Console (TMC) or Talend Administration Center (TAC).
• 3+ years of experience supporting Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and Talend runtime infrastructure.
• 2+ years of experience providing production support for enterprise integration solutions.
• 4+ years of experience working within a mature SDLC, including source control, code reviews, CI/CD, testing, release management, and change management.
• 1+ year of experience using AI for code generation, data analysis, automation, or data engineering productivity.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT development, data transformation, orchestration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Nice-to-Haves

• 6+ years of experience with data requirements analysis, data transformation, cleansing, and wrangling.
• 6+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design and optimization.
• 2+ years of experience building scalable ETL pipelines and cloud integrations using Talend.
• 3+ years of experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs.
• 3+ years of experience with message-queueing technologies such as ActiveMQ or Azure Service Bus.
• 1+ year of experience with ServiceNow and Azure-based Data Management Platform integrations.
