Role Overview

The Senior Data Architect will support the modernization of court-data reporting by helping integrate existing data marts into an enterprise data warehouse and dependent data marts and views. The role will focus on data architecture, profiling, data modelling, mapping, ETL development and testing, data quality, and reporting validation.

Work Arrangement

• Primarily remote, with the resource working from within Canada.
• Onsite meetings or work sessions in Edmonton may be required on reasonable notice and are expected to account for approximately 15% of total hours.
• The resource must provide their own computer, software, and other equipment required to perform the work. A modern Windows or MacOS device compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is required; Windows is preferred.
• A criminal record check and enhanced security clearance will be required before commencing work. The resource must also be eligible to obtain higher-level security clearances if required.
• Mandatory training may include privacy, access to information, security/cybersecurity, information management, and workplace conduct requirements.

Responsibilities

• Define and manage data architecture principles, strategies, models, standards, guidelines, and plans.
• Review existing data marts and perform detailed data profiling to support the target enterprise data warehouse architecture.
• Define enterprise data requirements and develop data architecture, design, and mapping specifications.
• Apply Kimball-based dimensional modelling practices and identify the dimensions and facts required for data marts.
• Develop, test, and validate ETL processes, including staging and transformation of required data.
• Assess data quality and support testing of dimensions, facts, and reporting outputs.
• Develop Power BI reports for testing and validation of selected dimensions and data.
• Update existing data models and document new fact attributes and related data structures.
• Promote data reuse, sharing, consistency, and practices that reduce redundancy and improve data quality.
• Develop and support transition plans from current-state data structures to the desired future-state architecture.
• Provide architectural guidance and consultation to projects and initiatives to support alignment with enterprise data architecture and information management strategies.
• Lead or participate in design and architecture reviews and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Address minor fixes in delivered data marts and provide project feedback and lessons learned at closeout.
• Support other members of the enterprise architecture team as required.

Must-Haves

Attestation

• Ability to satisfy the required conflict-of-interest attestation and confirm that all information provided is accurate and complete.

Education

• Completed training in structured query languages specific to Microsoft T-SQL and/or Oracle and/or PL/SQL, and database development.
• Training obtained within the past 5–10 years relating to cloud computing, Microsoft Azure, and Azure Architecture.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered; formal education is strongly preferred.

Work Experience

• At least 5 years of experience defining data architecture and using Kimball architecture to develop data marts.
• At least 2 years of experience working in or with public-sector environments, with awareness of public-sector constraints and privacy legislation such as FOIP.

Work Experience

• At least 5 years of experience developing with data modelling or architecture tools such as SAP/Sybase PowerDesigner, ERwin, Oracle Designer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, Microsoft Visio, or similar tools.
• At least 3 years of experience using JOIN (Justice Online Information Network) and JIMS (Justice Information Management System) data and structures, with knowledge of business rules based on judicial processes.
• At least 2 years of experience working in or with court environments, with awareness of the importance of judicial independence.
• At least 1 year of experience working with information management and cybersecurity policies, directives, and guidelines within limited timelines.
• At least 5 years of experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing decision-making.
