Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Architect the client’s project; a data integration initiative focused on consolidating court data marts into an integrated Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and dependent data marts and views. The role will support data architecture, profiling, modeling, mapping, ETL development and testing, reporting validation, and data quality activities.

Work Arrangement

• Primarily remote, with work performed from within Canada.
• Approximately 15% of total hours will be allocated to onsite meetings or work sessions in Edmonton when required.
• The resource is responsible for providing their own computer and required software/equipment for remote work; Windows is preferred for compatibility with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

Responsibilities

• Review existing data marts and perform detailed data profiling of tables and data structures.
• Analyze and create data architecture, design, mapping, and data model specifications.
• Identify dimensions required for facts and define the required data structures and attributes.
• Develop and test Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and stage required data.
• Develop Power BI reports to support testing and validation of dimensions and data.
• Perform quality assurance testing of dimensions, facts, and delivered data marts.
• Update JOIN as-is data models to incorporate new fact attributes and required changes.
• Address minor fixes in delivered data marts and provide feedback and lessons learned at project closeout.
• Define and manage data architecture principles, strategies, models, standards, guidelines, and plans.
• Identify and document enterprise data requirements while promoting data reuse, sharing, and improved data quality.
• Develop and support transition plans that move current data toward the desired future-state architecture.
• Provide architecture guidance and consultancy to projects and initiatives to support alignment with enterprise data architecture and IMT strategies.
• Participate in design and architectural reviews and provide guidance on data architecture decisions.

Must-Haves

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 2 years of experience working in or with public-sector environments, with awareness of public-sector constraints and privacy legislation such as FOIP.
• At least 5 years of experience providing architecture risk assessments; architecture analysis or assessments; capturing and implementing business rules; and determining data mart content and data structures.

Nice-to-Haves

• Completed training in database administration.
• Completed training in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Data warehousing certification such as TDWI Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), CFI Business Intelligence and Data Analyst (BIDA), or completion of Kimball Group Data Warehouse training.
• At least 5 years of experience using data modeling tools such as SAP/Sybase PowerDesigner, ERWin, Oracle Designer, SQL Developer Data Modeler, or Microsoft Visio.
• At least 3 years of experience using JOIN (Justice Online Information Network) and JIMS (Justice Information Management System) data and data structures, with knowledge of business rules based on judicial processes.
• At least 2 years of experience working in or with court environments, with awareness of the importance of judicial independence.
• At least 1 year of experience working with information management and cybersecurity policies, directives, and guidelines within limited timelines.
• At least 5 years of experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing decision-making.
• Completed training specific to SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton when required.
• Agreement to complete required criminal records checks and enhanced security clearance, including a credit check, prior to commencement.
