Data Engineer – Senior

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Senior Data Engineers to support the development and delivery of modern data solutions across multiple digital projects. The role will work with business and technical stakeholders to build scalable data platforms, data pipelines, analytics solutions, and data models that support enterprise reporting and informed decision-making.

The successful candidate will combine strong data engineering experience with analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary Agile teams.

• Location: Edmonton, Alberta – occasional onsite requirements
• Candidates must perform all work from within Canada.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
• Develop and optimize data models, including dimensional, star, and snowflake schemas.
• Integrate data from relational databases, NoSQL platforms, APIs, and file-based sources.
• Design and maintain ETL/ELT workflows, including data validation, error handling, monitoring, logging, and scheduling.
• Support data migration and modernization initiatives across different platforms and environments.
• Improve data pipeline performance, scalability, automation, and reliability.
• Develop curated data marts, fact tables, and dimension tables to support analytics and reporting.
• Support enterprise data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, security controls, and access management.
• Develop Power BI dashboards and reports and use DAX to create meaningful business insights.
• Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies using Python, R, and statistical techniques.
• Build predictive or descriptive analytics models where required.
• Translate complex data and analytical findings into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with architects, developers, business stakeholders, and multidisciplinary Agile teams.
• Support self-service analytics and improve data and analytics capabilities across teams.
• Apply appropriate automation, testing, deployment, and monitoring practices to data solutions.

Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer and/or Data Analyst.
• 5+ years of experience using Python, including PySpark, and SQL to develop, orchestrate, and optimize enterprise ETL/ELT workflows.
• 4+ years of experience with ETL processes and designing data pipelines that transform and load data from multiple sources.
• 4+ years of experience with enterprise data warehouse or lakehouse solutions, including star/snowflake schemas and fact/dimension modelling.
• 4+ years of experience with cloud modernization or hybrid/cloud data platforms.
• 2+ years of experience planning, executing, validating, or supporting data migration across on-premises, cloud, or cross-database environments.
• 4+ years of experience with Business Intelligence and executive reporting, including dashboards, KPI reporting, self-service BI, or business performance reporting.

Nice-to-Haves

• 1+ year of experience using AI-assisted development tools and practices within data engineering workflows.
• 2+ years of experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code for cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience with modern data technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, or similar lakehouse/big-data platforms.
• 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise-scale applications or solutions in public sector or mixed delivery environments.

• Candidates must be able to provide a current criminal record check when requested.
• Certain assignments may require enhanced security clearance or higher-level security clearance.
• Successful candidates will be required to complete mandatory training, including privacy, security/cybersecurity, information management, and workplace-related training.
