Financial Analyst – Junior

• Job Type: 6 months Contract (Extension term of 12 months)

• Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM Alberta time, with a 1-hour lunch break
• Hours per Week: 36.25

Role Overview

The Junior Financial Analyst will support full-cycle accounting and financial reporting activities, including month-end processes, financial analysis, reconciliations, dashboards, and internal and external reporting. The role will also support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and continuous improvement of financial processes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and support month-end reporting activities.
• Perform account and bank reconciliations and review financial information for accuracy.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, business partner maintenance, and capital asset maintenance.
• Review accruals and trial balance accounts and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity.
• Support variance analysis and investigate financial abnormalities.
• Analyze and interpret financial information to support business needs.
• Work with business entities to gather and provide information for budgeting and forecasting.
• Identify and support improvements to financial processes and reporting.
• Prepare and support financial reports, dashboards, and other required financial information.
• Perform other related financial and accounting duties as required.

Must-Haves

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience creating and using advanced Microsoft Excel functions, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
• At least 2 years of experience with financial transactions, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data, and using Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work onsite in Edmonton during the required business hours.

Nice-to-Haves

• Pursuing a CPA designation.
• At least 2 years of experience applying financial audit, financial controls, financial reconciliation, or financial systems governance principles to large-scale data migration, data conversion, or ERP implementation projects.
• At least 2 years of experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, and identifying errors.
• At least 1 year of experience with SAP Finance (FI), including financial postings, invoice processing, and integration with procurement and supply chain.
• At least 2 years of experience supporting a range of financial operations.
