  • Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain reliable data solutions supporting a large-scale digital regulatory transformation initiative.

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, and technical teams to develop scalable data pipelines, integrate diverse data sources, maintain high-quality datasets, and support analytics and reporting needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable and secure data solutions using Microsoft Azure.
  • Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines.
  • Build data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Develop and optimize data workflows using Python, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Work with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 and structured data storage solutions.
  • Integrate data from multiple source systems, including APIs and geospatial systems.
  • Develop data models and semantic layers to support reporting, analytics, and downstream data consumption.
  • Design and maintain analytics-ready, trusted datasets and data products.
  • Implement data quality, governance, metadata, classification, and lineage practices.
  • Support secure data access through authentication, role-based access, encryption, and data masking.
  • Design and integrate secure RESTful APIs and data services.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines and integrations for reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and product owners to understand requirements and data objectives.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to support code generation, optimization, testing, automation, and documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of data products and platform solutions.

Must-Haves

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience using Python and SQL for enterprise data engineering and ETL/ELT development.
  • 3+ years of experience with Azure Databricks and Delta Lake, including pipelines, workflows, jobs, notebooks, and cluster management.
  • 3+ years of experience designing analytics-ready data solutions using technologies such as Power BI and Azure Synapse, including semantic layers, data marts, or data products.
  • 3+ years of experience with Azure services including Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, and Azure networking.
  • Experience implementing secure Azure authentication using Service Principals and Managed Identities.
  • 4+ years of experience using Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
  • At least 1 year of experience using AI for code generation, data analysis, automation, or improving data engineering workflows.

Nice-to-Haves

  • 6+ years of experience performing business requirements analysis related to data transformation, cleansing, manipulation, and wrangling.
  • 6+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and administration.
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, or Semantic Models.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • 3+ years of experience with message queueing technologies such as Azure Service Bus or ActiveMQ.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver software applications and data products.

Additional Requirements

  • Candidate must be able to work remotely from within Canada.
  • Candidate must be available for required on-site meetings in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Candidate must provide their own computer, software, and remote-work equipment.
  • A modern Windows or macOS computer compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is required; Windows is preferred.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check before commencing the assignment.
  • Mandatory security and privacy training will be required after engagement.
