Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Solutions Designer to design and guide enterprise hosting and integration solutions for complex, highly available systems. The role combines hands-on backend and integration design with requirements analysis and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements, service specifications, standards, policies, and cost considerations into solution designs and technical documentation.
  • Design backend services, APIs, messaging, middleware, and cloud-based integrations, including solutions using Azure integration technologies.
  • Assess existing system capacity, performance, security, and recoverability; recommend improvements or replacement where appropriate.
  • Develop technical specifications for installation, testing, performance, and migration of integrated services.
  • Gather requirements, develop use cases and prototypes, and present solutions to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Lead developers and facilitate technical discussions through design, implementation, and delivery.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of backend design and development experience using REST web services, JPA, Hibernate, databases, SQL, and PL/SQL.
  • Strong enterprise integration design expertise, including integration patterns, technologies, principles, and best practices.
  • In-depth Spring Framework and Spring Integration experience designing and building integration solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of message-oriented middleware and enterprise service buses, such as IBM App Connect Enterprise or MuleSoft, with experience building solutions using them.
  • Experience using JMS, AMQP, or REST in an Azure integration context and with cloud-based integration solutions.
  • Experience leading other developers as a team lead.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior public-sector experience, including enterprise architecture standards and documentation practices.
  • Experience with Oracle or SQL Server data models; UML, JEE, service bus, and ETL solution design.
  • Experience designing highly available, mission-critical server applications and assessing infrastructure capacity and performance.

Technical Skills

REST APIs, JPA, Hibernate, SQL, PL/SQL, Spring Integration, IBM App Connect Enterprise or MuleSoft, JMS, AMQP, Azure integration, Oracle or SQL Server, UML, JEE, service bus, and ETL.

Work Arrangement

Onsite in Toronto, Ontario, five days per week.

Contract Information

Full-time contract assignment anticipated through March 31, 2027. Start date is to be confirmed.
