Performance Test Lead – P&C Insurance

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Performance Test Lead to strengthen the performance, stability, reliability, integration quality, and observability of a Guidewire insurance platform for a Confidential Client. The role operates at the intersection of performance engineering, system reliability, integration testing, and root-cause analysis across PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, batch processing, work queues, APIs, and distributed-system flows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop performance-test strategies, plans, requirements, workload models, test scenarios, scripts, schedules, and execution windows.
  • Design and execute performance, load, stress, peak-load, endurance, volume, reliability, and end-to-end system tests.
  • Baseline and track latency, throughput, error rates, integration success rates, batch stability, and work-queue performance.
  • Validate behavior across Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, APIs, messaging flows, asynchronous processing, and cross-system data movement.
  • Create performance scripts for Web HTTP/HTML, TruClient, web services, REST, and .NET applications.
  • Assess batch execution, retry behavior, failure handling, bottlenecks, backlogs, and job stability.
  • Analyze JVM and thread behavior, database queries, API latency, application bottlenecks, and failure points.
  • Use logs, monitoring, and observability data to distinguish actionable failures from noise and identify gaps in monitoring.
  • Partner with development and platform teams on query optimization, code-level performance, integration reliability, error handling, and remediation.
  • Document defects, review results, prepare before-and-after metric validation, and produce clear performance reports and recommendations.
  • Support Agile sprint and release reviews and contribute to repeatable performance and reliability practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience leading performance, reliability, monitoring, and analysis activities for distributed systems.
  • Experience developing performance-test strategies, designs, plans, workload models, scenarios, scripts, and results reports.
  • Hands-on experience with LoadRunner, JMeter, Gatling, StormRunner, or comparable performance-testing tools.
  • Experience with APM and observability platforms such as Datadog, AppDynamics, Splunk, or comparable tools.
  • Experience testing REST and SOAP APIs, asynchronous processing, messaging systems, web applications, services, and .NET applications.
  • Ability to analyze JVM and thread behavior, database performance, API latency and throughput, batch execution, and integration failures.
  • Experience creating stress, peak-load, endurance, volume, and other workload-based test scenarios.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language.
  • Strong root-cause-analysis skills, including the ability to distinguish symptoms from underlying systemic or localized issues.
  • Experience working with Agile performance-testing practices and multiple technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, collaboration, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Guidewire experience, particularly with PolicyCenter and BillingCenter.
  • Property and casualty insurance-domain knowledge, including policy and billing flows.
  • Experience with batch-processing, job-scheduling, and work-queue systems.
  • Background in site reliability engineering, platform engineering, or systems-level quality engineering.
  • Experience with WAS tuning, JVM tuning, PL/SQL tuning, and drill-down bottleneck analysis.
  • Experience integrating performance testing into DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration, continuous delivery, test-driven development, cloud development, application resiliency, and security.
  • Experience with cloud-based application performance testing and tuning.
  • Experience documenting defects in Micro Focus Quality Center or a comparable platform.

Work Arrangement

  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Location: Remote

Success Measures

  • Measurable improvement in system latency, throughput, integration reliability, batch stability, and work-queue processing.
  • Reduced error noise and stronger observability across the platform.
  • Consistent identification of root causes across application, integration, JVM, database, and infrastructure layers.
  • Repeatable, scalable performance and reliability testing practices with clear reporting.
