Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst with strong Property and Casualty insurance expertise to support commercial lines policy administration initiatives.

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, technical teams, quality assurance teams, and offshore delivery teams to gather, analyze, document, and manage business and functional requirements.

The role requires strong knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and Businessowners Policy products, experience working with core policy administration systems, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories, process flows, and data-mapping documents.

The Senior Business Analyst will also support Agile delivery activities, facilitate stakeholder discussions, manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle, and ensure delivered solutions align with business expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis and Requirements Management

  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand business objectives, operational challenges, policy administration processes, and system requirements.
  • Gather, analyze, validate, and document business, functional, non-functional, data, and integration requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into clear functional requirements that can be understood and implemented by development and testing teams.
  • Prepare business requirement documents, functional requirement documents, process flows, data-flow diagrams, data-mapping documents, and supporting solution documentation.
  • Identify gaps between current-state and future-state business processes and recommend practical solutions or workarounds.
  • Maintain requirements traceability and ensure that all approved requirements are addressed throughout the delivery lifecycle.

P&C Insurance and Policy Administration

  • Support policy administration initiatives within the Property and Casualty insurance domain.
  • Apply strong knowledge of commercial lines insurance products, particularly Workers’ Compensation and Businessowners Policy.
  • Analyze insurance workflows including submissions, quoting, underwriting, policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and policy servicing.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to ensure policy-system functionality aligns with insurance rules, business processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support implementations involving core policy administration platforms such as Guidewire PolicyCenter, Duck Creek, OneShield, or comparable systems.

Agile Delivery and Scrum Support

  • Work within Agile and Scrum delivery environments.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings.
  • Create and maintain epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and product or sprint backlogs.
  • Facilitate requirement clarification sessions with developers, testers, product owners, and business stakeholders.
  • Support the Scrum Master or delivery lead in tracking actions, dependencies, risks, blockers, and sprint commitments.
  • Ensure user stories are sufficiently detailed, prioritized, and ready for development.

Stakeholder and Team Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, product teams, offshore teams, and technical delivery teams.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, walkthroughs, and requirement-validation sessions.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, dependencies, issues, and proposed resolutions to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Clarify scope, resolve requirement ambiguities, and maintain alignment between customer expectations and delivery outcomes.
  • Coordinate requirement handoffs to development and testing teams and provide ongoing functional clarification.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure timely communication regarding changes, decisions, and delivery risks.

Testing and Solution Validation

  • Review test plans, test scenarios, and test cases to ensure coverage of documented business requirements.
  • Support system integration testing, business validation, and user acceptance testing.
  • Assist business users with UAT planning, execution, defect clarification, and issue resolution.
  • Validate delivered functionality against approved requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with development and testing teams to investigate defects and determine appropriate business resolutions.
  • Support production-readiness reviews and post-implementation validation activities.

Reporting and Delivery Support

  • Track day-to-day project activities, requirements status, risks, issues, decisions, and dependencies.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly status reports for project leadership.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure approved documents are stored in the appropriate repositories.
  • Escalate critical risks, scope concerns, and unresolved issues in a timely manner.
  • Drive solution delivery by facilitating discussions, validating requirements, supporting testing, and ensuring timely issue resolution.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 4–7 years of professional experience as a Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, or Functional Analyst.
  • Strong experience in the Property and Casualty insurance domain.
  • Hands-on experience with commercial lines insurance products.
  • Strong functional knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and Businessowners Policy.
  • Experience working with at least one core policy administration platform such as:
    • Guidewire PolicyCenter
    • Duck Creek
    • OneShield
    • Another comparable policy administration system
  • Experience gathering and documenting business, functional, system, data, and integration requirements.
  • Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data-flow diagrams, and data-mapping documents.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance from project leads or managers.
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders, product owners, developers, testers, and offshore delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting system testing and user acceptance testing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of commercial insurance underwriting and policy-servicing processes.
  • Experience coordinating with geographically distributed or offshore delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting integrations between policy administration systems and downstream applications.
  • Familiarity with insurance data mapping, interface requirements, and business-rule documentation.
  • Experience providing alternative solutions or business workarounds for critical production or implementation issues.
