Role Summary:
The Finance Data Analyst is responsible for advancing data literacy and maturity within the Finance function. This role ensures that Finance data consistently meets high quality standards, supports risk and control frameworks, and enables effective decision-making through robust data management practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or related field.
- CPA/CA designation or currently pursuing the designation.
- Experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, data management, reporting, or a similar data-driven role.
- Experience in the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry is an asset.
- Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio.
- Hands-on experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Qlik Sense and Business Objects.
- Familiarity with finance software platforms (e.g., Oracle Financials or equivalent ERP systems).
- Core Competencies
- Strong understanding of data stewardship, governance, and quality frameworks.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities; experience with data profiling is an asset.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships across cross-functional teams.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Governance & Strategy
- Build and enhance data capabilities within Finance by applying consistent data management strategies and principles throughout the data lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT, Legal, Privacy, and Data Governance teams on operational and project-based initiatives.
- Participate in Data Impact Assessments (DIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) as a representative of Finance.
- Assist in the implementation of internal control policies and procedures and embed governance controls into Finance change activities.
- Continuously improve data governance requirements, policies, and documentation.
- Data Quality & Stewardship
- Manage the Finance Data Issue Log, including tracking, resolution, and escalation to the Data Governance Office when required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of automated data quality and data retention solutions in partnership with governance and IT teams.
- Support internal risk and audit processes by providing required documentation, testing evidence, and updates through relevant compliance systems (e.g., iCARE).
- Reporting & Analysis
- Develop and maintain data quality dashboards, scorecards, and key performance indicators (KPIs), both financial and non-financial.
- Support the development and refinement of efficiency metrics and management information (MI) inventories.
- Prepare and maintain various Finance reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Data Structures & Reference Data
- Execute Chart of Accounts (COA) requests accurately and promptly.
- Participate in COA intake request reviews and assessments.
- Maintain and understand Finance data hierarchies such as IFRS17, CGAAP, and MI structures, including corresponding reference data management.
- Collaboration & Support
- Actively participate in Finance Data Forums, including facilitating discussions, preparing materials, and maintaining meeting records.
- Maintain team documentation including policies, procedures, user guides, and training materials.
- Manage team data and documentation via SharePoint or equivalent collaboration platforms.
