Financial Analyst – Intermediate
Position Overview
We are seeking an intermediate Financial Analyst to support financial operations, budgeting, contract management, procurement, financial reporting, and cost analysis for a Confidential Client. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams to maintain accurate financial reporting, support compliance with financial policies, and enable effective budget management.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly forecasts, accruals, and budget reports.
- Review and process vendor invoices in accordance with contract terms.
- Create and manage purchase orders and service entry sheets using SAP and Ariba.
- Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and financial variances.
- Develop cost models and perform financial and risk analysis.
- Maintain complete financial documentation and support audit activities.
- Prepare financial reports and recommendations that support business decisions.
- Apply applicable procurement, financial-governance, and internal-control standards.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience using advanced Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP or equivalent lookup functions.
- At least three years of experience creating and managing project forecasts and budgets.
- At least three years of experience reviewing vendor invoices and processing payments through SAP or a comparable ERP platform such as Ariba or Oracle.
- At least three years of experience applying accounting principles and Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, or an equivalent framework.
- At least three years of experience using SAP and Ariba for contract and procurement activities.
- At least three years of experience with accounting systems, budgeting, financial processes, and internal controls.
- At least three years of experience maintaining accurate financial records and accounting data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of trade agreements, the Financial Administration Act, FOIP, or the Public Works Act.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, or administering vendor contracts.
- Experience documenting business processes, procedures, and standards.
- Financial reporting and reconciliation experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with process improvement, requirements gathering, audits, or compliance activities.
- Experience with IT-related accounting and financial processes.
- Experience developing cost models or performing contract, financial, and risk assessments.
- Government or public-sector project experience.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills.
Work Arrangement
- Employment Type: Contract
- Location: Primarily remote; candidates may be required to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton, Alberta, up to four times per year with reasonable notice.
- Schedule: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Alberta Time.
- Term: Initial contract with the possibility of an extension of up to six months.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must provide a computer compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop; Windows is preferred.
- A criminal background check is required before the assignment begins.
- Mandatory security and onboarding training must be completed.
