Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Remote within Canada with occasional onsite meetings/work sessions in Alberta)

Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote (Candidate must be located and work within Canada)

Duration: 12-Month Contract with possible extension up to 24 additional months

Hours: 7.25 hours/day | 36.25 hours/week

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Front End Designer to support large-scale digital transformation and service innovation initiatives. You will work as part of cross-functional Agile teams to design modern, user-centered digital services and create engaging, accessible, and intuitive user experiences.

The successful candidate will collaborate with product owners, developers, researchers, and business stakeholders to design digital products from discovery through delivery. This role involves creating user experience artifacts, conducting usability evaluations, contributing to design systems, and ensuring accessibility standards are incorporated into all solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive and evidence-based digital experiences for web and other service channels.
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Develop build-ready design specifications and interface documentation.
  • Contribute to design systems, component libraries, and style guides.
  • Participate in user research, usability testing, and design validation activities.
  • Present and justify design recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and demonstrations.
  • Ensure designs comply with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams delivering digital transformation initiatives.

Must Have

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Front End Designer designing and enhancing services via web and other channels.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing UX artifacts, including streamlined scenarios, storyboards, wireframes, flows and interactive prototypes.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working within a cross-functional product team in an Agile environment.

Nice to Have

  • Minimum 2 years of experience building and maintaining component libraries/design systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience exploring multiple design solutions to a given problem or feature, and communicating those solutions visually through sketches, user flows, wireframes, functional prototypes, and/or high-fidelity designs, as necessary.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in production design for multiple digital devices (web, mobile, etc.) or complex enterprise applications.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using accessibility standards and principles including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with current methodologies and design thinking, especially in relation to improving service experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with frontend design applications such as Axure, Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Front End Designer on a project comparable in size and complexity to service innovation, program review, and/or digital transformation projects.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a dedicated public sector central digital office.

Work Arrangement

  • Primarily remote within Canada.
  • Candidate should be available to attend meetings or work sessions in Alberta on reasonable notice (typically quarterly).
  • Occasional travel within Alberta may be required for field research and user interviews.
  • Candidate is responsible for providing their own computer, software, internet connection, and home office equipment when working remotely.
  • Microsoft Teams is the primary collaboration platform.
