Senior Data Analyst

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Specialist / Senior Data Analyst to support a strategic data platform migration from traditional SQL-based systems to Snowflake. This role will play a critical part in data mapping, transformation logic, validation, and performance optimization during the migration effort. The ideal candidate will be a SQL expert with a strong analytical mindset and hands-on experience in data warehousing and BI tools. Experience with Wherescape, Tableau, DBT, and Snowflake are considered strong advantages.

Note: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – Remote but 5% Travel required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with data engineers and stakeholders to support the migration of legacy SQL data systems to the Snowflake cloud data platform.
  • Analyze existing SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes to identify transformation logic and performance bottlenecks.
  • Design and document data mapping specifications, data models, and transformation rules.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance between source and target systems.
  • Assist in building robust data pipelines and transformation layers using modern data tools where applicable (e.g., Wherescape, DBT).
  • Work with BI teams to ensure Tableau dashboards and reports function as expected post-migration.
  • Support troubleshooting, optimization, and performance tuning of SQL and Snowflake queries.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL (including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and performance tuning).
  • 5+ years of experience in a data-focused role (e.g., Data Analyst, Data Specialist, BI Developer).
  • Proven experience in enterprise-scale data migrations or transformations.

Nice-to-Have Experience (In Order of Priority):

  1. Wherescape: Experience with Wherescape RED or 3D in data warehousing environments.
  2. Tableau: Ability to support and validate Tableau dashboards, including data source changes and visual validation.
  3. DBT (Data Build Tool): Familiarity with modular SQL transformation frameworks and version-controlled development practices.
  4. Snowflake: Understanding of Snowflake architecture, including virtual warehouses, Snowflake SQL, and role-based access controls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL best practices.
  • Experience working in Agile environments or on cross-functional data teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
